Micco is the unincorporated stretch of south Brevard between Grant-Valkaria and the Indian River County line, along US 1 and the lagoon. It got its post office in 1884 and stayed a fishing and citrus settlement until Barefoot Bay was built on its west side in the early 1970s. The housing outside Barefoot Bay is a mix: 1950s through 1980s block homes and older frame houses on the river side of US 1, manufactured homes on the interior lots, and newer single-family houses on Micco Road and toward the St. Sebastian River. Shingle and metal are both common, and most of the riverfront has gone to metal.
Frances and Jeanne came ashore a short distance south in September 2004 and crossed Micco three weeks apart. Nicole's eye passed over on November 10, 2022, after landfall south of Vero Beach. The lagoon frontage and the manufactured-home lots are in the county's Evacuation Zone A.
