Viera is the Duda family's master-planned community on part of the 43,000 acres of ranch land the family bought in the 1940s, straddling Interstate 95 along Wickham Road. Ground broke on August 4, 1989, and the community has added a phase almost every year since, first Viera East on the Wickham Road side in the 1990s, then Viera West across the interstate from the early 2000s on. Together the two census areas hold close to 30,000 people. The housing is single-family and townhome stock from 1992 to this year, almost all concrete block, with shingle on most of it, concrete tile on the golf and estate sections, and metal appearing on newer builds.
